When you live in the greater Charlotte area, nothing kicks off the Christmas season like the Olde Mecklenburg Christmas Market. With nearly 50 vendors on location offering everything from specialty goods to beer, mulled wine, and everything else in between, this is a must-visit location as you work up to the holidays. And even if you don’t celebrate the holidays, you can still out to sample the world-class food and beverages! Don’t forget to visit the Olde Mecklenburg Brewery Christmas Market especially for amazing brewery experience.
Come On Out To The Annual Christmas Market
This is one of the most popular pre-Christmas events in the entire area. It’s a great way to get out of the house and to do a bit of alternative shopping. After all, there is only so much wandering the halls of the local malls and spending hours on Amazon that you can do all day. With the Olde Mecklenburg Christmas Market, you can come out and spend your time among the local vendors, all while sampling a number of the quality beers and mulled wines of the region.
The market itself opens up for the first weekend of the month and remains open for each of the first three weekends of December. Every year the exact number of vendors and the shops that will be on hand does change, so you’ll want to check out the Charlotte Agenda website and the Olde Mecklenburg Christmas Market Facebook page for updates on exactly who is coming out and what shops will be set up. More information will become available the nearer the event comes (and if you check in post-Thanksgiving everything should be set so you’ll know what to expect when you come out).
In past years the market has seen around 50 vendors annually, including local favorites such as Glory Days Apparel, 704 Shop, Johnny Fly Co, and King of Pops.
Location and Time
The market sets up shop at the Olde Mecklenburg Brewery, which is located at 4150 Yancey Road. The brewery itself will run standard business hours, so if you enjoy stopping by the brewery for a beer after work or during the weekend, don’t worry, you’ll still be able to do this (it’s also a great opportunity for new beer drinkers to stop by and sample the brewery).
In addition to the regular brewery times, the market itself will run the three weekends prior to Christmas. On Friday the market opens at 4 p.m. and runs until 9 p.m. and on Saturdays, the market runs from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m.
The brewery does make a special seasonal beer to go along with the market. If you’re interested in sampling the seasonal beer make sure to stop by as early as possible. This is a fan favorite beer and it tends to run out prior to the conclusion of the third weekend. So if you want the beer try to stop by on one of the first two weekends.
To stay up to date on all the latest information regarding the brewery, plus insights into parking and other helpful information you might want as the market comes nearer to date, make sure to check out the Olde Mecklenburg Brewery Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter pages. Here you’ll find out if there are any changes to parking and other adjustments to what is going on at the festival.
The festival also kicks off earlier on the very first day (check back to the brewery Facebook page for exact details regarding this following Thanksgiving). On the first day there will be a Christmas tree lighting and even an appearance by Santa. This makes it a great opportunity for you to bring the kids out to see Santa.
All ages are welcome to the market. Additionally, all ages are welcome inside the brewery (food is available). However, those under the age of 21 will be asked to leave the interior of the brewery after 9 p.m. Throughout the market, though everyone of all ages can spend time shopping and checking out the different local and regional vendors.
Each vendor accepts different forms of payment, so while credit cards will likely be accepted, this is a case by case basis according to each individual vendor.
More About The Brewery
The seasonal beer is a favorite, but that doesn’t mean you’ll miss out on excellent beer during the three weekends if you are unable to stop by early (the beer will also be sold inside the brewery throughout the week, so you can sample it then if you miss out on the market days.
There are a number of beers available throughout the year at Olde Mecklenburg Brewery Christmas Market. This includes the Copper, which is done on the traditional German altbier fashion, and if you are a pilsner fan you can try out the Captain Jack Pilsner. If a German wheat beer (hefeweizen) is more your style, make sure to check out the Hornet’s Nest. This beer won bronze at the Great American Beer Festival. The Fat Boy Baltic Porter received the European Beer Star as well.
There are also a number of other beers available when you stop by (*the Yule Bock is the seasonal beer you’ll want to look for that sells out early)
